Android displays cryptic error instead of password prompt, due to Inactivity Timeout

Issue:
When Inactivity Timeout is enabled, an Android device displays the error:

“Unable to open connection to server due to security error.  (username@domain.com)”
B4993

Solution:

What the device requires in this instance, is the entry of the user’s password.

Users should:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Location Security > Set Password to enter the password.
  2. Reboot the device so that the new password is applied.

This issue has been observed on the following devices:
-Motorola Droid RAZR M, Droid RAZR HD, Droid Ultra, Xoom, and Photon Q
-Samsung Galaxay Tab 10.1, Galaxy Nexus
