Import Contacts from BlackBerry to GroupWise client

GroupWise:

When you first set up NotifyLink an OTA load of contacts is required.  This will remove all contacts from the device and then load the contacts you have in your Novell GroupWise client.  Some users have their contacts on their device and not in their GroupWise client.  Novell has provided us with a solution to this problem.  Below is how you can import your contacts from your Blackberry into GroupWise before performing the OTA load.

 

Procedure

To import Address Book contacts from a backup of the BlackBerry smartphone to the Novell GroupWise email client, complete the following tasks:

Task 1 - Back up the data on the BlackBerry smartphone

  • 1. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer, and open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  • 2. Double-click Backup and Restore.
  • 3. Click Backup.
  • 4. Type a filename and click Save.
  • 5. Once the backup completes,click Close.
  • 6. Disconnect the BlackBerry smartphone from the computer.

Task 2 - Restore the backup

  • 1. On the BlackBerry smartphone, open the Address Book, display the menu, and select Options.
  • 2. Set the Wireless Synchronization option to No. (Not an option with all devices)
  • 3. Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to a computer that has the BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed.
  • 4. Open BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  • 5. Double-click Backup and Restore.
  • 6. Click advanced. (Click Restore) File transfer file is in a loop ... does not end Without selecting CANCEL...) - sometimes causes an error ... ** the communication link was inactive...
  • 7. Locate the backup file you created in Task1.
  • 8. Click Open.
  • 9. Click advanced
  • 10. From the list of Desktop File databases, selectAddress Book.
  • 11. Click the arrow pointing to the right.
  • 12. Click OK in the warning window.
  • 13. Once the transfer has completed,click Close, and thenClose again.

Task 3 - Synchronize the data between the BlackBerry smartphone and the Novell GroupWise email client

  • 1. With the BlackBerry smartphone connected to the computer, in the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, double-click Synchronize.
  • 2. Select the Configuration tab.
  • 3. ClickConfigure synch....
  • 4. Select the Address Book and click Choose.
  • 5. Select Novell GroupWise.
  • 6. In the popup box, specify the username and password for the Novell GroupWise email client. This can also be done by clicking the Options button.
  • 7. Under Operation, select Synchronize or, if you want to overwrite the Novell GroupWise address book contents, select Import.
  • 8. If the address book listed under Folder Name is incorrect, then clickBrowse and select the correct address book.
  • 9. Click OK.
  • 10. Back in the Device Configuration window, the address book should be selected with double ended arrow pointing to Novell GroupWise.
  • 11. Click OK.
  • 12. Select the Synchronization tab.
  • 13. Make sure Synchronize organizer data is selected and de-select the option Synchronize the items selected above automatically when your device is connected to the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  • 14. Click Synchronize Now.
  • 15. When the window for confirming address book edits comes up, if the changes are correct, accept the changes.
  • 16. Once the synchronization completes, click Close.
  • 17. Confirm that the address book contacts are now in the Novell GroupWise email client.

Task 4: Restore the address book data

  • 1. With the BlackBerry smartphone connected to the computer,open BlackBerry Desktop Manager, and click Backup and Restore.

  • 3. Locate the backup file you created in Task1.
  • 4. Click Open.
  • 5. Click advanced
  • 6. From the list of Desktop File databases, selectAddress Book.
  • 7. Click the arrow pointing to the right.
  • 8. Click OK in the warning window.
  • 9. Once the transfer has completed,click Close, and thenClose again.
  • 10. Disconnect the BlackBerry smartphone.
  • 11. On the BlackBerry smartphone, select the Address Book application.
  • 12. Display the menu, and select Options.
  • 13. Set the Wireless Synchronization option to Yes. (not an option with all devices)
  • 14. Save the changes.
