Password Lock Feature Functionality

With the upgrade to Service Pack 1 on the Exchange 2007 server, the ActiveSync password lock feature is automatically enabled on users' accounts.

NotifySync utilizes the ActiveSync protocol and thus when the device initially registers with the Exchange server, it will prompt you to create a password and from that point on, will require that password to unlock it after inactivity timeout locks.

Potential Issue
It is important to remember this password, since, just disabling the password policy on the Exchange server will not completely disable the prompt on the device.  The password lock setting must be turned off manually on the device for the feature to be completely disabled.

Solutions
If this is a feature that you do not want set up on the device, then prior to registering the device, you will want to disable this feature on the Exchange server.

If the password is already set and forgotten and you cannot get past the password prompt, clear the NotifySync database on the device via the Blackberry Desktop Manager.  This will unregister the NotifySync client and allow access to the Blackberry again.  Then proceed by disabling the feature on the Exchange server and re-registering the device.
